Extending Your Program

Continuing from One Session to the Next

  • Application Fee–is good for one year, so you don’t need to pay another application fee for the next quarter
  • Program Fee and Student Services Fee–continuing students must submit an application and pay fees for the next session in order to be enrolled
  • Placement Test– continuing students do not take another placement test

Advancing to the Next Level

Academic Intensive English Program (AIEP)
  • If your grades average “C” or higher in a 10- or 12-week program and meet attendance requirements, you can move to the next level
  • If you do not pass your core classes in your previous level, you must repeat that level
  • If you enroll in a 6-week summer AIEP program, upon finishing the course, you can be considered for the next level only if you receive grades of “A” in all of your courses; this will then allow you to retake the placement test; however, you must receive a high enough score on the placement test to go up to the next level.
  • If you enroll in a 6-week summer AIEP program and you do not receive grades of “A” in all of your courses, you must repeat the same level in a 10-week program.
  • Skipping Levels—you cannot skip levels unless you
    • Receive grades of “A” in all of your courses
    • Receive recommendations from your core course instructors
    • Obtain permission from the academic advisor to retake the placement test
    • Achieve a score on the placement test that allows you to skip a level
Intensive English Communication Program (IECP)

You can move to the next level:

    • If you have not failed more than 2 courses in a level
    • If you are enrolled in one of the IECP “menus” and have not failed TOEFL Preparation, Discover LA, or Campus Explorer
    • If you have not missed more than 3 morning classes (9 hours) and no more than 3 afternoon classes (6 hours)
    • IECP Grades–are Pass (P)/No Pass or Fail (F)
    • Workbooks—you must buy the workbook, bring it to class, and use it each day of class.
    • Active participation—is very important in IECP and to pass your courses and receive a certificate you must participate actively
    • Requirements for Listening, Speaking, Writing, and Off-campus Assignments–you must participate actively and consistently in:
